Party game ideas and word lists

One game, many occasions

Say It is a word-guessing party game for two teams that runs in the browser. The pages below show how to play it at a party, on a video call, at work or over the holidays, and list ready-made words you can add to a room in one tap.

The rules stay the same everywhere: one player describes a word without saying it, their team guesses before the clock runs out, and turns rotate until everyone has described twice. What changes is the mood of the evening — the length of the rounds, the words you put in the deck and how competitive you want it to be.

Pick the format for your group

For a relaxed evening with friends, keep the default one-minute rounds and let everyone add a few words about the group before you start. For a team-building session at work, mix departments across the two teams and use the office word list. For a family call or friends in different cities, play over a video call: everyone joins from their own phone and the game keeps the score.

If your group likes a challenge, try captains mode, where each team’s captain writes the words the other team will have to describe. If you prefer to start instantly, use only the built-in deck of about 1,500 everyday words and add your own words in the next game.

Guides and word lists

Each page below covers one occasion or one skill in detail: how to describe words well, which house rules make the game more fun, how to host a game night on a video call, how to run it at an office party, and themed word lists you can copy straight into a room.
